Graduate Student Training

Training Program In Gene-Environment Interactions
This is a unique, interdisciplinary 2-year program for graduate students pursuing PhD or MD/PhD degrees at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC-H) schools or at Baylor College of Medicine, with a strong interest in multi-disciplinary research projects designed to study genetic variation and environmental exposure, and the effects of these interactions on human health. The program, generously supported by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, is the result of collaboration between UTHSC-H, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, and Baylor College of Medicine.
Dissertation Research
Throughout its multiple educational partnerships with other institutions in the Texas Medical Center and across the State of Texas, the IMM offers dissertation research opportunities to PhD and MD/PhD students. Forty-four faculty members at ten individual research centers, provide supervised research, mentoring, and other opportunities for graduate students.
Post-Doctoral Training
Joint- Postdoctoral Program with The University of Nuevo León
The key objective of this program is to provide training to post-doctoral fellows to prepare them for an independent career in the area of drug development for a period of 3 years. It is specifically designed for graduates from the University of Nuevo León in Monterrey, México (Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León) who hold a PhD or an MD degree, and have prior experience in biomedical research.
Joint- Postdoctoral Program with China Medical City
This program was developed through a partnership with China Medical City, the largest biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries complex in China. It is designed to train PhD graduates from Nanjing Medical University and Suzhou University.
Fellowships
Post-doctoral fellows are trained under the guidance of an experienced scientist holding a primary faculty appointment at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC-H). Training usually takes place over a three to four year period, and is designed to help fellows develop a broad range of skills essential for future careers as independent researchers in a diversity of fields.
