Peter Davies, M.D., Ph.D., Executive Vice President for Research is a professor of integrative biology and pharmacology who served as assistant vice president for research at the UT Health Science Center from 2001 to 2003. He joined the health science center in 1979 as assistant professor of pharmacology at the Medical School. He also serves as director of the Medical School’s Genomics/Proteomics Resource Core Laboratories.
Among his research interests is a focus on the biology and pharmacology of the Retinoid X Receptor, which when activated by certain drugs, has shown favorable effects in animal models of diabetes and breast cancer and in human leukemia cells. Davies earned his bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from Cornell University in 1967. He earned a medical degree in 1972 and a doctorate degree in biochemistry in 1975, both from the University of Miami Medical School.
